1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The Message Version

  • Love NEVER gives up

  • Love CARES more for other than for self

  • Love DOESN'T want what it doesn't have

  • Love DOESN'T strut

  • DOESN'T have a swelled head

  • DOESN'T force itself on others

  • ISN'T always "me first"

  • DOESN'T fly off the handle

  • DOESN'T keep score of the sins of others

  • DOESN'T revel when others grovel

  • Takes PLEASURE in the flowering of the TRUTH

  • Puts up with ANYTHING

  • TRUSTS GOD ALWAYS

  • ALWAYS looks for the BEST

  • NEVER looks back

  • But KEEPS GOING TO THE END

  • LOVE NEVER DIES

Then the study notes added a little meaning to everyhting...

"13:4-7: Paul now advances from the superiority of the fruit of the Spirit, love, to the important traits of love. Love never gives up, or puts up with people that it is easy to give up on. Love is kind, namely, treats well people who have treated us poorly. Love doesn't envy nor parade itselfand is not puffed up. Self-promotion plagued Corinth and challenges us today. [isn't always "me first":] a person who loves is willing to set aside his or her own plans or entitlements for another's good. [Doesn't fly off the handle] speaks of not being irritated or over-sensitive to others, easily angered. thinks no evil: when we love someone we do not immediately assume evil on their part. [Doesn't revel when others grovel...takes pleasure in the flowering of the truth] Love does not delight in evil in any form, including the fall of a brother or sister. [Puts up with anything...trusts...always looks for the best...never looks back...but keeps going to the end]: Love is the foundation for all acts that please God.

13:8: [Love never dies]: This uncompromising affirmation contrasts with grace-gifts, whcih are transitory at best"
